Trang & Hat Yai (25.04.22 - 03.05.22)

Wednesday 27th April 2022

I’m now in Trang and have been for a couple of days. It’s quite nice here, not much going on, you could call it a sleepy little town. The day I arrived (Sunday) it pissed down with rain and to be honest Trang looked dead and boring. Then on Monday Thomo arrived, it was good to see him again and fab to have some company, but all we do is get pissed – yesterday I had a hang over from hell and even slept for two hours the afternoon. Last night we took a stroll to Cintra night market, and although not very busy there were a few live bands playing. Thomo really likes Thai music, me on the other hand….. but it was good to be out and doing something. I’m trying to talk Thommo into coming a bit further south with me, but I don’t think he is going to – such is life. I think he is missing his girlfriend, but she has told him that she is too busy to see him right now – strange if you ask me.

So I just checked out and am now waiting for Thomo to appear from his Valium induce sleep. The poor guy is struggling, he now can’t get in contact with his girlfriend because she borrowed money from a friend and used her phone as security. So, he’s coming South with me to Hat Yai, but not to Malaysia, which is cool but it is going to be fun to have his company for the next few days. I’m also feeling a little concerned because Glenn is thinking about coming to Malaysia to meet me. I have told him that I will back in Cambodia after Malaysia – please stay there Glenn – I will come and find you – I promise.

Hat Yai is kinda cool, lots of awesome street art which I absolutely love. Thommo booked a hotel with a swimming pool but they close it a 4pm so I doubt it will get much use from either of us. My hostel is a 15 minute walk from his so we are not in each others pockets as we were in Trang.

There is a nice street food area not far from me. I got chatting to one of the Muslim girls at a stall and she said she would love to go to England but her mother says she is too young. I asked her age, she is 25! Time to flee the apron strings and do what you want to do I think. It is actually very different here than the rest of Thailand as there are so many more Muslims than I’ve seen in total during my travels. Malaysia is a Muslim country and this is the last stop before the boarder so it does make sense.
